Stereophonics - a modern British rock group. It is based in 1992 in the city of Cwmaman, the Wales. For 17 years of existence has let out 7 studio albums which total circulation exceeds 10 million In music Stereophonics group Oasis influence is most accurately traced.

The group history originates in early 90 when Kelly Johns (a guitar, a vocal), Richard Johns (bass) and Stewart Kejbl (shock), three child-hood friends, have decided to create a rock group which they at first have christened Blind Faith, but was soon found out that such name was carried by Eric Clapton's group. After a while there was the renamed group Tragic Love Company named in honor of favorite bands of musicians: The Tragically Hip, Mother Love Bone and Bad Company. Later Stewart Kejbl has offered name Stereophonics which he has read in a photo of the grandmother. The name has been approved by other members of group, and the group began to be called «The Stereophonics». It's name has held on up to 1996 when the group took definitive name Stereophonics.

Being natives of the Wales, musicians first perfected the skill regular performances in local pubs. They were under strong influence of such groups, as AC/DC and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their professional career begins in 1997 when Richard Brenson, founder Virgin Records, has offered them the contract with the new label V2.

Performances of 1997 and the debut album of group entitled Word Gets Around, became the present opening, especially in Great Britain. Hide review
